Manchester United monitoring David Brooks

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth youngster David Brooks ahead of the upcoming season.

United are in the market for quality additions to their squad this summer and are believed to be keen on the services the 23-year-old. Brooks has been an impressive squad member at the Vitality Stadium since breaking into the first team under Eddie Howe during the 2018/19 campaign.

His performances during that seen him brought him into the limelight heading into the just ended season. However, he his 2019/20 campaign was hampered by a serious knee injury which led to him missing almost all season but for the matches after the three months lockdown.

Nevertheless, that has not ceased clubs from showing interest in him as Liverpool were reported to be pondering over a move for him this summer.

And now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have entered the race to sign the midfielder ahead of the 2020/21 season.

David Brooks is one of the Cherries’ prized assets at the Vitality Stadium having arrived from Sheffield United in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth £11.5 million.

Per reports from Sports Witness, despite dropping into the Sky Bet Championship, Bournemouth have set Brooks asking at £50 million, with the Premier League champions and the Red Devils expected to be involved in a tag of war for the Wales international’s signature this summer.

United had been keen on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho throughout the season. And although they are yet to drop their interest in the England international, the Manchester club are not willing to meet Dortmund’s valuation of a staggering £108 million for the winger.

While Solskjaer’s team are also believed to be exploiting other alternatives including Douglas Costa of Juventus and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Brooks can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a right winger in a front three, while his natural position has been as a right sided midfielder.

He has scored eight goals in 39 Premier League games for Bournemouth since making his debut, while also adding five assists.
