Telefoot reports that Abdoulaye Doucoure has reached an agreement with Everton over personal terms, agreeing a four-year contract.
Though a fee have not been agreed with Watford amid a rejected first opening bid and a second offer looks to be on the line.
Doucoure contributed a lot in Watford’s fight for Premier League safety last campaign, but unfortunately, the Frenchman couldn’t save the Hornets from going down to the Sky Bet Championship.
The 27-year-old midfielder who moved to Vicarage Road from French league side Rennes during 2016 winter transfer window has proved to be an outstanding and consistent performer with the now relegated Premier League side Watford, winning the club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards in 2017/2018 campaign.
Abdoulaye Doucoure has mostly played as a holding midfielder or central midfielder for Watford in the past but since Nigel Pearson took over the managerial position, Doucoure has now been pushed into a more advanced to good effect. The Frenchman has in turn been able to unlock his immense potential with incredible techniques and quality display.
His new role entails being given the license to room around mostly in more offensive positions, sniffing and taking advantage of opportunities that are capable of causing goal threat.
Considering his agility, stamina, power and tenacity, he’s been able to influence most matches and becomes a lot more difficult to curtail.
Carlo Ancelotti is working on strengthening the Merseyside Blue, especially the midfield role which has mostly lacked dominance and spark in most games last season.
The return of Andre Gomes from his horrible leg break couldn’t lift the Toffees’ midfield dominance, while the 30-year-old Gylfi Sigurdsson has looked out of place amid his recent poor form. Watford obviously wouldn’t consider selling Doucoure, but the financial implication caused by their relegation, would have prompted the club to consider selling him for the right price.
If Ancelotti’s side could agree a deal with Watford, Doucoure would undoubted be a shrewd signing by the Toffees.
