Manchester United are reportedly asking for a fee of worth £20 million in order to part with Chris Smalling in the summer transfer window.

Smalling spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Italian side Roma, where he impressed massively for Paulo Fonseca’s side.

The Sere A side were expected to make his deal permanent after the loan but an agreement with the Premier League side is yet to be reach, with Smalling also missing the remainder of Roma’s Europa League campaign before they lost to Sevilla.

Roma were reported to be wanting another loan deal for the 30-year-old with an obligation to buy, but the Red Devils are only open to selling him outright this summer.

According reports from English out the Sun, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have upped their asking price for Smalling after the player’s successful loan and want £20 million to sanction his sale.

Smalling has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly all preferred to the England international.

Roma are believed to be readying a £15 million bid in the coming weeks and are hopeful that could convince the Manchester club to allow the defender to join them ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The Giallorossi are also likely to have an advantage on their path with Smalling willing to take a pay cut in order to help seal a move back to Italy, but that would only be needed after both clubs have reached an agreement for the sale of the player.

Smalling still has two years left on his £130,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford but is desperate to earn regular playing time away from the club if he cannot be guaranteed one in England.

Inter Milan were also reported earlier this month to monitoring the centre-back’s situation in England and could approach the Red Devils for his signature this summer.
