According to The Mirror, Arsenal are believed to be preparing to reach an agreement over Mesut Ozil’s £18million contract, as they are trying to make an offer to pay him off or subsidise his £350,000-a-week wages if he’s able to move to another club.
Mesut Ozil has a year left on his contract and it’s obviously known that the club are not willing to extend his contract, while the former German playmaker does not intend to leave Arsenal, with the player stating his readiness to see out his deal.
Upon featuring consistently after Mikel Arteta took over the managerial position, the 31-yrs-old ex-Germany international playmaker has been missing from actions since the league returned, after some weeks off due to the Covid crisis.
Mesut Ozil has continued to suffer a lot of criticism and labelled “Lazy”, due to his work-rate compared to his peers.
The German icon had a torrid spell under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, as he was mostly being left out of contention, while his absence had divided the fan base.
Under Arsenal’s new manager Mikel Arteta, Mesut Ozil enjoyed what could be called a rejuvenated career, with the manager featuring the ex-German player immediately he took over the managerial reign.
Though Ozil didn’t have much success in amassing assists this season, boasting just one assist, unlike the high amount he’s known to be capable of providing, but the playmaker was still able to create second best chances behind club record signing Nicolas Pepe.
The club looks to be trying to slim down their wage bill with the potential sale of Ozil, Mkhytharian, Elneny, Torreira, Guendouzi, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles and Lacazette, so as to give them the opportunity to make their priority signings this summer.
But all depends on their ability to conclude a deal with the aforementioned players’ suitors as soon as possible.
Though some sports outlet had reported that Ozil rejected a move to Fenerbache, as the Turkish side were unable to meet his wage demand expectation.
But things now looks to be taking another twist, as the board are now ready to either pay him off or subsidise his wages, if he eventually gets another club.
Will Mesut Ozil agree with the club’s management? Or will this be another Gareth Bale-esque situation?
