Manchester City midfielder David Silva will reportedly finalise a deal with Italian side Lazio on Monday.

The player is expected to bring an end to his career at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the 2019/20 season, with only the Champions League left to be played.

Silva had been linked with a move to the MLS outfit Inter Miami alongside the Serie A club, but it the former who look likely to secure the signature of the veteran. Teams from the United Arab Emirates were also linked with the Spaniard.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the 34-year-old will sign a deal with Simone Inzhagi’s side in the coming week and play in the Aerie next season.

The midfielder had been at the Etihad Stadium since 2010, after joining from Spanish side Valencia, and has become a very important figure at the Premier League side.

Fernando Silva, father of the midfielder, recently revealed his son would be open to playing in the Italian league.

He told El Transisto: “I can confirm that he likes the Italian league and would really enjoy playing in Italy. He told me he could play there until he’s 40 years old.

“At the moment, there are many offers and he has to decide, but I’d love it if he signed for Lazio, because even if Rome is quite far away, it’d be a huge opportunity for him.”

After finishing in the top four last season, Lazio are set to return to the Champions League and that looks to have convinced the departing City star to prefer the move.

Lazio were in hot race to fight for the league title until a bad run of form post-lockdown ended their hopes of beating Juventus to the Scudetto.

Silva was involved on Friday as the Citizens booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will face Olympique Lyon.
