As per reports, Chelsea have set their eyes on Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga at Stamford Bridge at their No.1.
The hierarchy at Chelsea understands that luring the German away from Camp Nou won’t be an easy feat to achieve however they don’t wanna risk it with another goalkeeper after signing Kepa from Atletico Bilbao for a record fee. A move which hasn’t worked for either party as the Spaniard has failed miserably to establish himself at Stamford Bridge. His current standing at Chelsea could be understood by the fact that head coach Frank Lampard chose to play Willy Caballero ahead of him in the FA Cup final against the eventual champions Arsenal.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has successfully established himself as Barcelona’s No.1 in recent years and has been tipped as their best player this season bar Lionel Messi himself. The German international has two years left on his contract and a host of clubs, including Chelsea, are keenly observing the movements happening at the Camp Nou to observe whether or not Barcelona would be able to renew his deal. In case ter Stegen decides against extending his contract at Barcelona, the LaLiga outfit could well be forced into selling their prized asset instead of risking him leaving for free. And along with Inter Milan, Chelsea are attempting to station themselves as his first choice if ter Stegen decides to leave.
However, Marc-Andre ter Stegen isn’t the only LaLiga goalkeeper the Blues are interested in. As per reports, Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak has also caught the eye of the Chelsea hierarchy and they would be prepared to test Spanish side’s resolve to keep hold of Oblak, who’s widely regarded as the world’s best goalkeeper.
Whether it’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen or Jan Oblak or whoever ends up as Chelsea new No.1, what’s confirmed is that Kepa Arrizabalaga’s days at Stamford Bridge are numbered.
