Matthias Ginter has claimed he remains committed to Borussia Monchengladbach, despite confirming that Premier League side Chelsea have enquired about him.
Having made attacking additions to his squad ahead of next season, Frank Lampard is believed to strengthen his defence as well, and has identified the Germany international as a possible target.
The 26-year-old was a key part of Monchengladbach’s impressive campaign in the just ended season, helping Marco Rose’s side to finish fourth in the Bundesliga, which also ensured they gained Champions League qualification for the 2020/21 season.
The central defender told German publication Kicker: “I’m definitely staying in Gladbach. Of course I heard of the enquiries and was flattered by this attention. But I’ve said often enough how good things are for me in Gladbach. The current team has great potential and the coach has brought a huge added value for us.
“The club is in the process of building something with the great fans and the environment. I also have big goals with the club and of course I’m still tied into a contract.”
Ginter joined Gladbach in 2017 after they paid a fee in the region of £15 million to Borussia Dortmund to take him away from the Signal Iduna Park. He has also been capped by Germany 30 times since making the switch.
He also made 31 appearances in the German top-flight to take his total outings in the Bundesliga to 102. And with just little over a year left on his current deal at the Borussia Park, the defender says he is in no rush to sign a new contract at the club.
Quizzed on whether his side are looking to tie him down to a new contract, Ginter added: “I can imagine that but there is no hurry. Discussions have yet taken place on this topic due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
Should the Blues really be keen on his services, they will be hoping he does not commit his long term future to the German outfit.
