According to reports on Monday, Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes could become a Manchester United player in a matter of days after his entourage was contacted.
The 22-year-old is in serious demand after being sought by top clubs in Europe following his impressive performances with French outfit Lille during the 2019/20 campaign.
Magalhaes is also has been linked with Napoli and Premier League side Everton during the summer transfer window, but Man United are moving fast to secure a move for him per the latest reports.
French outlet L’Equipe last week claimed that the Ligue 1 side had received five offers for the signature of the youngster, with two other clubs joining United, Napoli and Everton.
The Italian side were believed to be the front runners for the player’s signature with Kalidou Koulbaly’s future yet to be decided after reports linking him with a move to England.
However, Italian journalist Emanuele Cammaroto has a different take on the situation, though, and suggests that it is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who are ahead and a deal could be struck ‘in the next few days’.
The reports also claim that the Red Devils have submitted a £24.3 million plus a further £1.8 million in bonuses offer to Lille with Napoli’s bid said to be around £20 million.
During the 2019/20 French Ligue 1 season, the 22-year-old made 24 appearances for the club before the season was shortened – scoring just one goal in 23 starts.
Magalhaes joined Lille from Brazilian side Avai in 2017 and has had loan spells with Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb during the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns respectively.
He was also a choice for Premier League side Arsenal during the January transfer window but the Gunners look to have prioritise other areas in their set up.
Having secured Champions League football for next season, United are set to be very active in the transfer market this summer, and are also looking to get a long-term partner for Harry Maguire despite the availability of Victor Lindelof.
