Manchester City have snapped up Issa Kabore from Mechelen, making him the first signing of the summer transfer window.
The 19 year-old will continue his stay at Mechelen for one more year on loan.
After back to back Premier League title wins in 17-18 and 18-19 season, The Citizens lost the title this year to Liverpool by a whooping 18 points.
The departure of David Silva will see City search the market for another attacking player along with signing a new central-defender which seems to be a priority for the upcoming season starting in September.
Manchester City’s first signing gives an indication that they have already started to plan for the future. The club revealed on it’s official website, “Manchester City have completed the signing of Issa Kaboré from Mechelen, subject to international clearance.”
“The 19-year-old, who plays as a right-back, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal but will remain at Mechelen on loan for the duration of the 2020-21 season. Born in Burkina Faso, he played five matches in Belgium’s top-flight last term.”
“Everyone at City would like to extend a warm welcome to Issa and we all wish him well during his time at the Club.”
Kabore has come through the ranks of Mechelen before getting a shot at the first team towards the forced end of the Belgian First Division A due to COVID-19 pandemic. He has also represented Burkina Faso at both Under-21 and senior level in the international competition.
As for Manchester City’s other transfer target, Ferran Torres is close to joining the club for an initial £21.2million (€23m) fee from La Liga side Valencia C.F.
