According to some sport outlets, Liverpool’s outgoing playmaker Adam Lallana has been rumoured to be on his way to his former club Southampton, after an inconsistent spell with the Reds since 2014.

Adam Lallana came from the Saints developmental youth setup after being scouted while he was at Bournemouth (Centre of Excellence) youth team, where he had being since the age of six. Upon joining the Saints’ academy in the year 2000, at the age of 12, Southampton paid the Cherries £3,000 compensation with further payments of £5,000 and £10,000 when he signed a scholarship and his first professional contracts respectively.

During 2007/2008 season, Lallana had a brief loan spell at Bournemouth which led to his breakthrough season in Southampton’s first team in 2008/2009. He began to feature prominently in the first team as they earned two consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

Lallana later became Saints’ captain at the age of 24 in 2012. After playing two seasons top flight football with Southampton which included an international breakthrough, he was rumoured to be Liverpool’s priority signing, which he later joined in July 2014 for a reported £25 million.

Lallana was named alongside fellow teammate Luke Shaw in the PFA Team of the Year in April 2014 and on 6 May, he won both the Southampton Players’ Player and Fans’ Player of the year.

Since joining Liverpool, Lallana has played 178 games across all competitions while scoring 22 goals and 22 assists thus far. His contract is set to expire by the end of the month, after been extended in June due to the league late restart.

Lallana has been linked several Premier league clubs, with rumour linking the 32-yrs-old England international midfielder with Everton & Bournemouth.

Pierre-Emile-Højbjerg

But according to The Express, it has now been speculated that Southampton are making a major step in resigning the playmaker which coincides with the imminent departure of the Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, despite an interest from Everton who had been reported to have made £25million offer but without success.

Hojbjerg had been stripped off his captain’s armband due to his refusal to extend his contract nor disclaim his speculated exit.

Since the Danish international midfielder has declared his intention to leave the club in search of Champions league club opportunity, his declaration has been met with much criticism and backlash from the fans and manager.

With Tottenham’s current position, it’s obvious that they will be playing Europa league football next season, with the possibility of having a better season next campaign, as Jose Mourinho will be having his first full season in charge of the Spurs.

As Lallana is looking likely to consider rejoining the Saints where he had made a name for himself, the Saints will be having the perfect replacement for the outgoing Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Jojbjerg who is valued around £35million.
