Manchester City are reportedly considering the idea of bringing Douglas Luiz back to the Etihad Stadium.

After failing to earn a work permit at the club, the 22-year-old was allowed to leave for Aston Villa last summer.

Pep Guardiola was keen on keeping the youngster at the club but could do little to stop his departure. However, the manager was said to have asked for a buy-back clause to be included in the agreement.

Pep voiced out his opinion in public several times about Luiz before he left the club, indicating his disappointment in the point that the work permit was his only setback.

“I am so sad and disappointed for Douglas because he could help us, play with us,” Guardiola said last summer. “He has shown many good things in training sessions and the reason why we spent a lot of money to buy him is because he is a player with a huge capacity to play for us.”

After his £15 million move to the Villa Park, Luiz has been handed 25 starts, while coming off the bench on eight occasions for Dean Smith’s men.

However, it is how important he has become for them in the last few games after the league’s resumption which continues to get the attention of other clubs, which Guardiola is said to be one.

Per information from Bleacher Report, City are open to bringing the midfielder back to Manchester having received positive reports on his impressive displays.

As well as being unable to represent the Cityzens, Luiz had to leave for a loan spell at Spanish outfit Girona where he had a good stint.

Left-back Angelino was another of the City youngsters who was brought back into the team with the help of the buy-back clause, but has since been loaned out to gain enough playing time.

The Spanish coach is set to be active in the summer transfer window having seen their two-year European ban lifted on Monday.
