Wigan Athletic are in a financial crunch as the club are yet to hand out payments worth about £5 million to clubs including Barnsley, Everton and Portsmouth. The club are in desperate need of funds and are looking to offload players in order to fulfill the weekly wages of their squad.
Kyle Joseph, 18, is yet to break into the senior team at Wigan, but the club soon heading into administration, assets like Joseph will be sold off to raise funds. He has been capped eight times across various youth levels for Scotland and netted two goals in the FA Cup Youth games this season.
And according to reports, Sheffield United are the latest club to have joined Celtic, West Brom and Leicester in the race for the young Scottish international, who is a highly rated young talent. Leicester and Celtic are both offering the player a more direct route into their squad, but Sheffield too are making a case for themselves.
The Blades have a formidable attack, consisting of striker duo David McGoldrick and Oli McBurnie alongside Billy Sharp and Lys Mousset.
34-year-old Billy Sharp and 32-year-old David McGoldrick both recently signed contracts with the club, keeping them at Bramall Lane until 2022, while McBurnie and Mousset are still young. If Josef does decide to make the switch to Sheffield, there is no doubt that he will not get many first team opportunities for the next few seasons.
However, Sheffield will not pass up any opportunities to bring in another young exciting forward to the club, with a very low fee associated with him and especially one who has enormous potential to develop.
The 6’1’’ centre forward has a similar play style and build to McBurnie, and his development will be aided immensely if he does decide to join the Blades setup.
