After a scintillating derby and a great win against fierce rivals, Arsenal, Jose Mourinho’s White Army head north to St. James’ Park to take on Newcastle United. Spurs currently sit in 8th, 1 position and 2 points above Arsenal and will be looking to extend that gap as Jose Mourinho’s men continue to push for European football. They will be confident seeing that Steve Bruce’s men have lost their last 2 Premier League games (5-0 to Manchester City and 2-1 to Watford).
Sitting at 13th in the table, a comfortable 12 points above the relegation zone, but 7 points below ‘mid-table’, it would seem as though Newcastle do not have much left to play for. Add to that, the fact that Saint Maximin might be a doubt for the clash after picking up a knock against Watford, and things don’t look too great for Newcastle United. They are unbeaten in six home league matches, however, and have lost just three times at St James’ Park all campaign – not since 2011-12 have they had a better record. However a lack of motivation may play a part in Wednesday’s clash.

Tottenham have improved their form and are unbeaten since their loss to Sheffield United, with 2 wins and a draw. They are expected to be without Dele Alli and Serge Aurier. If Spurs were to challenge for a European spot, games like these are supposed to be routine wins. However as we have seen on various instances this season, Spurs’ biggest undoing are Spurs themselves. If they were to put in the same fatigued, one-dimensional performance that we have seen quite a few times this season, someone like Joelinton, Almiron or Saint Maximin (if he plays), could make them pay. However, with confidence levels high and the Spurs team finally seeming to click, it is tough seeing Newcastle getting a result out of this. Games like these are also perfect for players like Harry Kane, who’s known as a ‘flat-track bully’, who scores a lot against these ‘smaller teams’. After the effectiveness of the 4-4-1-1 against Arsenal, it is doubtful that Spurs will drop the ball and give Arsenal a chance to overtake them on the table.
