Chelsea are reportedly considering an offer to bring Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak to the Premier League ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero have failed to provide cover, with Frank Lampard said to be open to bringing in another shot-stopper in the summer.
Dean Henderson and Andre Onana have been linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge in recent times, while Burnley’s Nick Pope is another option on the cards for the Blues ahead of the transfer window.
Per reports from England outlet The Mirror, the London club are preparing to launch their attempts to bring in the Atletico goalkeeper.
Oblak has a release clause in excess of £100 million in his current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Knowing the fee expected of them by the Spanish side, Chelsea are looking to convince the Rojiblancos to offload their first choice keeper by offering Kepa plus cash in any possible deal.
Lampard’s team will also need to fork out at least £70 million in addition to the Spaniard to get their target.
The Slovenia international has been with Diego Simeone’s side since the summer 2014 after arriving from Portuguese outfit Benfica.
He has become a very important player for the La Liga outfit since taking over as their No.1, and has kept 16 clean sheets in the top flight for Atletico, who languish in third position on the La Liga standings.
The 27-year-old also averages a ratio of 2.3 saves per game in the 36 games he has played in the Spanish top flight this term.
Compared to Oblak, the Chelsea goalkeeper has just seven clean sheets to his name in 31 Premier League appearances, conceding at least 1.4 goals per game in the league.
Kepa’s saves per game ratio of 1.7 is also short of the Slovenian’s, which is why Lampard is keen on signing him for next season.
Oblak’s current contract with Atletico Madrid is set to expire after the 2022/23 season, with three more years left on his deal.
