Reports in Turkey have emerged that Manchester United’s long time servant and veteran Juan Mata is reportedly leaving Old Trafford next summer for a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Journalist Ahmet Ercanclar of Sansursuz Futbol stated in a YouTube video that the talks began earlier this week and the Turkish club’s president Ali Koc is confident of signing the Spanish veteran midfielder.
Fenerbahce are looking to replace Max Kruse who opted against signing a permanent contract with the Turkish outfit. Mata is regarded to be the Istanbul based club’s first choice according to Ercanclar.
At the beginning of the season, Mata was recognized as one of the more important players at the club and was offered a one-year extension on his contract. But since the signing of Bruno Fernandes, the 32-year-old’s playing time has been limited and his quality on the pitch, feeble. Mata has made 34 appearances this season with three goals and five assists. But, he has failed to score in the Premier League and has majorly started cup games for the Red Devils.
Fenerbahce are hopeful to sign the Spaniard solely on terms of offering more playing time. It should be a good move for the veteran as his playing time is not getting any higher with the emergence of Bruno Fernandes. He can be a star for the Turkish side and can start week-in-week-out while also making use of his skills in the Turkish league.
