Since gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2014, Leicester City have been one of the most consistent teams in the league. The Foxes also won the Premier League in the 2015-16 season.
One of their best performers over the years has been Englishman Jamie Vardy. The forward has consistently scored over 15 goals in four of his six seasons in the English top flight. The player has been one of the most selected players in FPL over the years and has always provided valuable output to his owners.
However, 2020 has been bit of a roller-coaster for him. The 32-year-old has struggled to find consistency and has scored just twice since Gameweek 18. Vardy and Leicester are yet to win a game post lockdown. They have drawn twice and lost once, scoring only two goals in three games. Leicester are struggling to create good chances.
Their goal against Watford was a brilliant strike by Ben Chilwell and the one against Everton was a rebuffed clearance by Mason Holgate which struck Kelechi Iheanacho’s head and ended up in the goal. Leicester’s midfielders are struggling to create quality chances and the absence of Ricardo Pereira certainly hasn’t helped them.
If you’re a Vardy owner, you should seriously consider selling him. With games against opposition like Arsenal(A), Sheffield United(H), Spurs(A) and Manchester United(H), Leicester are unlikely to pick up many points and score much of goals. Only one of Leicester’s remaining six fixtures rank below three on the FDR (Fixture Difficulty Rating) scale.
Aside from the fact that Vardy hasn’t been in his best form in front of the goal lately, he also costs £9.7m and doesn’t provide with the best output for the price. A lot of different forwards are available if you are looking to replace him and get in some ‘good value for output’ transfers.
ALTERNATIVES TO CONSIDER:
Vardy’s international teammate Marcus Rashford (£9.1m) is a good option. United face Bournemouth(H), Villa(A) and Southampton(H) in their next three fixtures. They have stepped up their performances to get to the top four by the end of the season and are in a good momentum at the moment. Rashford is yet to find his feet after the lockdown but has provided two assists in three games.
Gabriel Jesus (£9.6m) is also a good shout. With Sergio Aguero out with a knee injury, his return date is yet unknown. City are a team who will pick up maximum points from their remaining fixtures and Gabriel Jesus will surely provide a good option to the managers looking to replace Vardy. With easy fixtures against Southampton(A), Newcastle(H) and Brighton(A), Jesus is a very considerable option.
Raul Jimenez (£8.3m) is a man in form and Wolves is a team who have performed consistently since the return of the Premier League. The forward has scored twice in his last three games and has also picked up 5 bonus points in two games. With considerably easy fixtures which see Wolves face off against Arsenal(H), Sheffield(A) and Everton(H) in their next three, the in-form Mexican is an excellent option as Wolves set their eyes to qualify for Champions League next season.
