After the scintillating win over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Frank Lampard’s Blue Army will be travelling to the King Power Stadium to continue their FA Cup campaign. Unbeaten in the last 5 games, their heads will be held high as they look to add some silverware to their cabinet this season. Chelsea’s starting 11 against Manchester City came completely out of left field, with Lampard choosing 2 number 8’s with Kante in the central defensive midfield position.
Looking at that has made predicting the squad extremely difficult knowing Frank Lampard’s unpredictability and adaptability. However here are some young players that have a good chance of featuring in Sunday’s game against Leicester City:
Reece James:
Reece James hasn’t featured much for Chelsea since the restart, most probably owing to fitness issues. This cup game against Leicester could be a great chance to ease him back into things and give him an opportunity to display the great attributes that Chelsea fans know he possesses.
Callum Hudson-Odoi:
Some off the field issues as well as injury problems have made Hudson-Odoi’s last few months far from smooth sailing. He recently started training with the first team again and with Pedro on his way to Roma, it is hard to imagine that Frank Lampard will put a fit Hudson-Odoi on the bench in favor of the veteran Spaniard. However whether he is fit enough to start remains to be seen and if he isn’t, he may feature off the bench.
Tammy Abraham:
Chelsea’s number 9 had an excellent start to the season but his goal-scoring exploits slowed down after… you guessed it, injury and fitness issues. However he put in a spirited performance against Manchester City, being a pest to the opposition center backs. He hasn’t started a game since the restart and has a really good chance of starting against Leicester, a team he is yet to score against this season.
Billy Gilmour:
The Scottish Xavi showed Chelsea fans exactly what they were missing with a brilliant cross field pin-point aerial pass to Pedro against Manchester City. He, like Jorginho, hasn’t featured in a game since the restart and if Chelsea are serious about him being the future of Chelsea’s midfield, these are the games Billy Gilmour has to start in. He has repaid the manager’s faith by securing 2 back to back Man Of The Match awards in his 2 starts before the break.
