Timo Werner could be handed his favourite shirt number at Chelsea after officially completing his move to the west London club.
Werner moved from RB Leipzig in a £50 million deal was confirmed on Thursday by Chelsea with the forward set to arrive at the end of the current season.
The 24-year-old has netted 42 times in 42 outings for the German club in all competitions this campaign including 26 in the Bundesliga. He has signed a five-year deal worth over £170,000 a week with Frank Lampard’s team.
Reports from media outlet Daily Telegraph suggests that Werner has his sights on the No.11 jersey at Chelsea, though there has been no confirmation of his squad number.
The forward is said to be keen on keeping the jersey number he has worn for Leipzig for the past four years at the club once he completes his switch to Stamford Bridge.
Pedro currently dons Chelsea’s No.11 jersey and with his contract up at the end of the season, Werner could be in pole position to land the shirt.
The former Barcelona player is said to have agreed a pre-contract with Italian Seria A side AS Roma and doubts are casted around whether he would be involved in any of the Blues games in the remainder of the season.
Chelsea will square off against Aston Villa on Sunday in their first game after the lockdown. Werner, on the other hand, will link up with his new team-mates once the Bundesliga season comes to an end.
