Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed club loanee Dean Henderson to become the first choice goalkeeper for the Red Devils and England.
Dean Henderson is in his second year on loan at Sheffield under Chris Wilder after helping his side in their promotion from the Championship. According to reports, the Red Devils are set to grant the young goalkeeper to extend his loan deal in order to complete the season at Bramall Lane. Premier League resumes from June 17 with Sheffield travelling to Villa Park in the opening game of the resumed PL season
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically,” said Solskjaer. “We’re looking at that in terms of where he’s going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.
“This season has proved a great experience for him, he’s done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England’s No 1 and Man United’s No 1 at some point.”
Manchester United are fifth in the Premier League table and face Tottenham in their opening fixture of the resumed season. The current first choice at Old Trafford, David De Gea signed a new four-year contract extension earlier this season. However, the Norwegian manager is sure that the 23-year-old shot-stopper will be a hit.
“It’s not my job to keep the players happy or in the team or out of it. Part of it is their responsibility of performing and doing well.
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and developed fantastically – and still is.”
