Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has opened up on his contract extension discussion with Arsenal and said that it is ‘possibly the most important decision of his career.’
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has just one year left in his current contract which is set to expire at the end of next season. The club and the player have been negotiating for a contract extension for a long time now. However, reports suggest that the club will be looking for a suitable buyer for the player in order to prevent another Ramsey-like situation.
“I haven’t recently received a proposition but of course there have been discussions with the club,” he told French outlet Telefoot. “It’s them [the club] who have the keys and for them to do their work.
“Afterwards we will see what happens. It is a turning point in my career.
“I have been very frank with everyone. It will be of course a very difficult decision to make. It is possibly the most important decision of my career. But so far nothing has been decided.”
It is believed that Aubameyang demands an improved salary in the contract extensions, which should be near to what German midfielder Mesut Ozil makes at the Emirates (£350,000-per-week deal). Even Ramsey demanded a similar salary and the club had to part ways with the Welsh defender.
However, it’s not just the wages, the Gabonese striker reportedly wants to experience Champions League football next season. The Gunners are currently ninth in the Premier League with 40 points from 28 games.
