Fulham’s 18-year-old right-back Cody Drameh is regarded as one their most talented youngster, who has been consistently performing for Cottagers’ development side despite his young age.
Drameh has a quick rise into the older age groups with the club, whereby making his debut for the U18 squad during the 2017-18 season and was rewarded with a two-year scholarship deal on 1 July 2018.
He made his Under-23 debut in the EFL Trophy, playing the whole 90 minutes in a 3-0 away loss to Oxford United on 4th September 2018.
The youngster was formerly keen on making a career as a basketball player but got stocked into football eventually. And now, he has firmly established himself as part of Mark Pembridge’s plans in the Under-23s squad.
His high catching performances from didn’t go unnoticed as he got his first call-up to England’s youth team in March 2019.
Drameh, speaking exclusively to HITC, as facilitated by Colossal Sports Management: “I’d been waiting for this moment for about five or six years so, when I got that call-up, it was amazing. I was so proud of myself and my family was proud of me (too).”
Drameh spoke about his fondness for United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, stating that: “For his defensive qualities, Aaron Wan-Bissaka (is someone I look up to). The way he holds his own, he’s also calm with the ball and not many players can get past him.”
Drameh also revealed his strengths and where he thinks he needs to improve, stating that: “My strengths are defending, interceptions and, in general, reading the game well. I think I can improve on my attacking output, crossing and making assists in the future,” naming Borussia Dortmund’s turbo-charged wing wizard Achraf Hakimi as an inspiration.
This season, Drameh has played 34 Premier league 2 games for the Under 23 side, assisting eight goals and scoring once thus far.
As per Mirror, it’s been reported that the Premier League champions Manchester City are weighing on signing the 18-year-old, who is seen as a potential signing for the future and as an ideal player to boost their home-grown allotment.
Joining City’s academy will not only give him an opportunity to learn from top stars while training with the senior team, it will surely give him a better opportunity to be around top youth coaches, who have been able to develop young talented players.
