Dean Henderson is on loan at Sheffield United for a second spell having helped the Blades to secure Premier League promotion in the 2018/19 season.
His performances for Chris Wilder’s side have gone unrecognized with so many questions being raised about his future.
There have talks of a possible return to his parent club, Manchester United to challenge David de Gea for the number 1 spot, with others also linking him with a permanent move to another Premier League club – but what could really be the possibilities for the 23-year-old in the summer?
RETURN TO UNITED
With De Gea showing no signs of slowing down his performance for the club, a return to Manchester United for Henderson will be a step back for him as it may likely be restricted to just a few minutes.
Sergio Romero also looks comfortable as a back-up option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, something the 23-year-old will not accept considering how frequent he has played in these last two seasons for Sheffield.
Henderson’s current deal with the Red Devils runs until June 2022 and the club will be hoping to make the most out of his loaded experience.
THIRD LOAN SPELL AT SHEFFIELD
Sheffield United seem to have received Henderson with open arms, giving him the necessary exposure and the needed development he opted for.
Joining them for a third next season could be of a massive boost for the player and for United who will be keenly monitoring him as they have always done.
With the Blades challenging for a place in Europe, he could be tempted to even push for a higher heights and grab the needed attention in one of Europe’s biggest competitions.
A MOVE TO A PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM/ABROAD
Another option that could be available for the youngster is to either make a move to another Premier League club or even consider moving outside England.
The player was linked with a move to Chelsea in January due to the poor performances of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero, but as to whether the Blues will push for a move in the summer is yet to be answered.
Borussia Dortmund could be another option for Henderson or Manchester United to consider. With the club’s interest in Jadon Sancho growing every day, it will be ideal to include a loan switch for the goalkeeper to have more of European football as part of the deal.
Rennes could also provide an European opportunity for Henderson should he prefer a loan move abroad to earn more playing time, with the Ligue 1 side securing Champions League qualification.
In any of the scenarios given, Dean Henderson will have a big decision on his own to make this summer and it will be a decision that might go on to have an effect on his long career.
