Frank Lampard has received a major transfer boost as Ajax manager almost confirms Onana transfer. Ten Hag said no one has approached Ajax for the Cameroonian goalkeeper yet, but he concedes a deal could be done at some stage.
Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season in a fairy tale run. But since then the team has started liquifying with the likes of Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs De Ligt leaving the Johan Cruyff Arena. Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech has also signed for Chelsea which will see him leave De Godenzonens at the end of this season.
Donny van de Beek is another Ajax player attracting top clubs in Europe. Onana is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in Europe can be the next in line with a host of top clubs trying to sign him up. Chelsea are reportedly the front-runners in signing the goalkeeper.
While Ajax wants Onana to stay, Ten Hag says Onana will be allowed to leave the Dutch giants providing the money is right.
“Andre is very important to us and of course we don’t want to lose him,” Ten Hag told Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad.
“But it’s true that we have an agreement from last year about the development scenario and what steps we will take if the right club comes in at the right price.”
While Kepa hasn’t been impressive for the Blues and the transfer window approaching, they are likely to look for his replacement. Onana still has 3 years in his contract and was thought to be worth £35million before the COVID-19 crisis, however, his current release clause is unknown.
