Liverpool are reportedly interested in bringing Lazio’s Joaquin Correa to Anfield this summer.
Obviously, Liverpool have solely relied on Roberto Firmino, who has arguably been their most important attacking outlet in Jurgen Klopp’s team, as his intelligent movements and link-up play allows others around him to flourish in goals.
With the Reds’ search of more options at the front line, Liverpool are said to have identified Lazio’s striker/attacking midfielder Joaquin Correa as their back-up to Timo Wener cometh the summer.
Who then is Correa?
Joaquin Correa, Argentina born striker, joined Lazio on a five-year contract for a €16 million transfer fee in August 2018, after impressing at Spanish club Sevilla, in a two years spell which saw him played 73 games and scoring 15 goals.
Correa’s preferred position has been as a supporting striker or attacking midfielder but can also play from the left wing, which allows him to cut into the box with his strong (right) foot to aim at goal or create chances, and can as well slot into the centre forward role seamlessly if needed.
His strengths are notably ball control, dribbling ability, pace, holding on to the ball, passing, agility and making key passes. Joaquin’s said to have gotten his football inspiration and channeled his style of play and movements around former Brazilian attacking midfielder and playmaker Kaká.
Though Correa lacks to track back and put in some commendable defensive contributions but his attacking threats makes him a deadly man on counter attacks.
Having 82.8 pass success percentage, 81% accurate passes in opposition half and averaging 1.2 key passes per game and 2 dribbles per game this season, shows he’ll be a valuable player for any attacking team (like Liverpool).
Judging with Jurgen Klopp’s style of play which doesn’t rely on an out and out forward, but prefers a false 9 or more creative type of player, who links-up well with players around him, Correa’s addition will undoubtedly be a perfect replacement or a challenger with Roberto Firmino, who is arguably Liverpool’s most important attacker in Klopp’s set-up.
With €60 million offer reportedly been touted to be tabled by the Reds to tempt Lazio into selling their star striker, that might be enough to convince the Biancocelesti’s to let go of Joaquin Correa this summer.
