Premier League players on Wednesday have launched the #PlayersTogether campaign – an initiative to generate funds for National Health Service charities in an effort to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is understood to be among the ringleaders, leading the charge for players in setting up the fund that would help those who need it most. Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were among notable players to have confirmed about the move in a tweet on Wednesday night.

Earlier this week, the Premier League proposed they would ask players to take a pay cut of 30 per cent – but there hasn’t been any agreement yet & the players have now announced their intentions.

The statement read:

“We can confirm that after extensive conversations between a huge number of players from all Premier League clubs we have created our own collective player initiative, #PlayersTogether, and have partnered with NHS Charities Together (NHSCT) in order to assist them in generating and distributing funds quickly and efficiently to where they are needed most.”

Matt Hancock, who currently serves as the Health Secretary lauded the players initiative in a tweet while Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has also been impressed by the player’s actions.
