The news about Willian’s failed contract extension at Chelsea has prompted a lot of clubs to signify their interest in him and report from TEAMtalk, suggests that Arsenal are among those interested in Chelsea’s wing wizard.
Willian was earlier reported to have reject a year extension at Chelsea, instead, demanding for extension of a couple of years instead. Due to his age and possible decline in performance, Chelsea had refused to yield to his request of more than a year extension.
What does he still have to offer?
Willian surely still has the quality to play at top level. His pace, dribbling, scoring abilities and dead-ball speciality has been his trademark attributes so far in his career, and on his current performances, he doesn’t seem to be declining anytime soon.
His consistency in regards to his productivity so far in the EPL has been unquestionable. His contract saga has propelled Arsenal’s interest. According to the same report, it is understood that Arsenal are willing to offer Willian 2-year-deal.
Is Willian what Arsenal needs?
Arsenal’s lack of options at the wings has seen an unusual twist in position which has led Arsenal’s highest goal scorer Aubameyang to be deployed mostly on the left wing this season. [And ofcourse to even make space for Alex Lacazette upfront]
Though the left wing hasn’t been Aubameyang’s preferred role, but so far, he has been able to demonstrate his versatility. Other options like Martinelli and Nelson haven’t gotten the experience and consistency required to convince the coach in earning enough game time with the first team this season. The only way is up for Nicolas Pepe, but he will need someone to get to his ears and definitely some competition while he grows.
Willian’s signing will definitely play a huge role in getting the best out of our younger players and also add enough quality in Arsenal’s attack next season.
