March 6, 2019 is definitely going to be a day most Manchester United players and fans are never going to forgot, at least for climbing so high to the mountain many didn’t expect them to, and for Mason Greenwood, it was a time to look back and say “I’m living the dream.”
March 6 – the triumph in Paris and the beginning of something positive from a young and talented ‘Mason Greenwood’, though he made little impact.
Greenwood made his competitive debut as an 87th-minute substitute in the 3-1 win over Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League last season, coming on to replace Ashley Young.
Having flourished in the Red Devils pre-season tour, Greenwood was set to be handed the mandate to fill the void to be left by the outgoing Romelu Lukaku, who had found game time had to come by.
Greenwood’s first start came in the Europa League opener against Astana, a game in which he scored the only goal to win it for the club; becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in European competition history for the Manchester based side at the age of 17 years 353 days.
Another poacher in the League Cup tie against Rochdale meant that Greenwood was worth the risk taken. The Premier League game against Sheffield United saw the England youth player net his first top-flight goal to salvage a point for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
The Europa League has been a revelation to the youngster who has taken advantage of every opportunity he has received in the tournament. Greenwood has started five out of the seven games he has played in the competition, being involved directly in six goals (5 goals, 1 assist). His latest coming in the knockout tie against LASK in Austria.

Mason Greenwood despite starting just four Premier League matches has shown signs of someone willing to rise to stardom. The teenager has scored five goals in the league (vs Sheffield, Everton, Newcastle, Norwich and Watford) with the season yet to end, you feel he will only get better.
Many have likened the youngster to Robin Van Persie and the comparison hasn’t gone unnoticed. ‘RVP’ confirmed he is a fan of the player and it is a matter of time until we see the ‘beast’ side of him. Doing a question and answer section on his social media page, the former Arsenal skipper added, “I think he will be very good because during every game he tries to copy me.
“My style, my technique, my left foot, my way o finishing… so, I’m sure he will end up there [like me].”
Mason Greenwood has 12 goals to his name in all competitions this season, recording one assist in the 36 appearances he has made.
