Manchester United travel to Goodison Park to face Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton on Sunday. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 7 matches in all competitions and would want to extend that run in a bid to earn a Champions League spot next season. The Toffees on the other hand have managed to salvage their season after their abysmal start and are coming after a 3-2 defeat against Arsenal last week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have had a great run of form recently, with Anthony Martial being in the midst of it most of the times. The Frenchman has taken the responsibilty to lead the line after Marcus Rashford’s injury and has bagged 10 goals and 3 assists in 21 Premier League appearances, and is also the second top scorer for the Red Devils behind Rashford.
The 24 year old has adapted to the number 9 role quite well this season. He is a strong finisher, and is also great at heading the ball. Martial plays a lot of key passes and likes to play through balls. He is however, weak at aerial duels and crosses. Also, his defensive contributions are pretty less, but despite that, he fills the criteria which Solskjaer requires and has become one of the most important players in the Manchester United squad.
Martial is expeced to undergo a late test over his availability against Everton, Ighalo is expected to lead the line if Anthony doesn’t turn up.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, he 22 year old has 12 goals and 1 assist to his name in 25 Premier League outings this season, and he is the leading goalscorer for Carlo Ancelloti’s side. The young Englishman is in good form, having scored in 4 out of his past 5 matches.
Calvert-Lewin is still young and developing, however, he has filled the number 9 spot quite easily at Goodison Park. With Moise Kean struggling to find his form in England, Calvert-Lewin has pounced on the opportunity and has reserved his place in the squad. He is strong at the aerial aspect of the game, and is an indirect set piece threat for the Toffees. Calvert-Lewin is weak defensively and fails to hold on to the ball, and does not dive into tackles very often, but his attacking traits have made him a regular in the Everton squad.
The match is expected to be an exciting one, with both clubs playing great football at the moment. And with both teams having Martial and Calvert-Lewin leading the lines respectively, we are set to see some great goals.
