Olivier Giroud deserves a start in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League fixture tonight vs Bayern Munich. The Frenchman started for Chelsea for the first time since November against Spurs at the weekend and was a beacon on the pitch. His presence was enough to provide Chelsea with a goal-scoring figure.

It would be a disaster for Giroud to be named on the bench after having a beautiful exhibition of football. The 33-year-old was successful in passing the audition to Champions League and there is no reason for Lampard to drop him.

The Frenchman was a nuisance on the pitch; completely opposite of what Michy Batshuayi was against Manchester United. Even against United, Giroud was brilliant for whatsoever short period he was on the pitch.

Frank Lampard may be aligned to get Tammy Abraham the start looking at the structure of Bayern Munich which can only be broken with agility and high presence on the attacking third. Giroud, however, with all his experience and nonchalance may get a nod over the inexperienced youngster.

In the absence of a goal-scoring figure, Giroud will have to shoulder the responsibility of scoring a goal or two from here and there in order to keep Chelsea in the title run.

The strikers prowess lies in his ability to score from set pieces and that is the only way to mask the reflexes of Manual Neuer who otherwise is a beast standing in front of the goal between the woodwork.

We all know for a fact that Lampard favours Tammy Abraham over the Frenchman but in a knockout stage of Champions League, Giroud’s experience is unparalleled and probably the most useful trump Lampard has in his hands.
