Watford were high flying in the last season finishing 11th under Javi Garcia. They were no more a relegation candidate and were, in fact, challenging for a top-half finish. Many argued that Garcia’s men were overachieving, and they did have a case. They didn’t have a particularly impressive squad in spite of some quality players in Abdoulaye Doucoure and Gerard Deulofeu.

They went in the summer and tried consolidating their squad with the likes of Danny Welbeck and Ismaila Sarr. While the English forward was signed on free from Arsenal, the Senegalese international was signed from French side Stade Rennais for free around the €35 million mark.

ismaila-sarr

Ismaila Sarr was one of the most sought after winger in Europe last season and was linked with a move to many Champions League sides. Thus it came as a kind of a shock that he signed for the Hornets. After his arrival, he was expected to become their main man though he struggled big time. His trajectory pretty much matched that if his team’s.

In his first 9 nine games in the Premier League, Sarr had just one goal which came against Southampton, but in a lost cause. During this period, the forward played under Javi Gracia, Quique Sanchez Flores and Hayden Mullins.

Pearson-Sarr

Though it took Watford’s fourth manager of the season in Nigel Pearson to unlock Ismaila Sarr’s potential. Ismaila Sarr has been directly involved in four goals in six Premier League games under the former Leicester boss. This figure has already eclipsed his figures under the other Hornets bosses he has played under.

Watford are looking to be on a road to back to revival under Nigel Pearson. With the hornets sitting at 17th with a point above the relegation zone.
