Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has acknowledged that changes might be needed to his starting XI in the coming weeks.
The Blades manager has stuck to the same staring XI for a major part of the season. Wilder has played the same back 5 all season except in the game against Manchester United where John Egan missed out. The midfield has also been the same for a large part of the season, except a small injury to John Fleck causing him to miss few games.
The front line was changing constantly in the earlier part of the season, but now Wilder seems to have settled on the pair of Lys Mousset and David McGoldrick.
When speaking to James Shield of the Sheffield star, Wilder warned his players, specially his attackers to be ready for changes.
“The likes of Oli [McBrunie], Callum [Robinson] and Billy [Sharp] and all of the other boys have got to be ready to go in terms of injuries and suspensions,” Wilder said.
“Like I say, this is a huge part of the season and every single game is massive. But we are looking at this current period, to see if we can keep picking up points and keep our run going. Then we’re into the New Year and that goes super quick.”
Wilder might be forced into making changes due to the hectic schedule of the Premier League starting up causing injuries and also suspensions. With the likes of John Lundstram, John Fleck and George Baldock just one yellow card away from suspension, Wilder might be worried. The trio will have to avoid getting booked till boxing day if they are to miss the suspension.
Despite of whatever happens, Chris Wilder would want his Blades players to be ready if he is forced into making changes.
The Blades are unbeaten away from home after their draw with Wolves last weekend. They host Newcastle United at Bramall Lane on Thursday, before facing Norwich City away from home on Sunday.
