After a dismal start to the season, Marco Silva’s Everton side sits 18th on the Premier League Table with only 2 wins out of the 8 matches they have played in. The same side, that finished 8th last season, just 3 points off an European spot and thrashed Manchester United 4-0.
But, it has all gone downhill for the Toffees this season. Marco Silva joined Everton last season and made an immediate impact as his first victory was a 22-0 masterclass in a pre-season friendly. And after finishing 8th, the Board and the fans were hoping that this season, Everton could book an European Spot under the Portuguese Manager. However, things have changed drastically. And with just 7 points in the first 8 games, many pundits and fans say that its time to sack Marco Silva.
Marco Silva have few main problems that he needs to solve. The major of those being able to defend set pieces. This Everton side lack the quality in the defence and after the departure of Kurt Zouma, they have faced more troubles. Zouma developed a good partnership with Englishman Michael Keane, but now with Zouma gone, the defence looks miserable.
Also, since Marco Silva took charge of Everton, they have attempted 668 crosses, with only Manchester City attempting more crosses than them with 674. However, Everton’s crosses are aerial which makes the side’s strategy fairly predictable unlike Manchester City, who cross low balls in. Silva will have to make sure he overcomes all these situations and signs some new players if he stays in charge till the January transfer window.
According to reports, the clash against West Ham this weekend can decide it all for the Portuguese Manager. A loss will be his 5th straight loss this season, and with his side already in the drop zone, the board will have no choice but to sack him. Reports also say that Everton eye former Manchester United and Chelsea boss, and Portuguese counterpart Jose Mourinho as the ideal replacement for Silva.
SO, Marco Silva will need his men to put all their heart in this weekend, if he is to keep his job. It will be too early to sack a manager with only 9 games played so far, but the Toffees won’t risk their chances and will probably start searching for replacements if Silva fails to get the better of Manuel Pellegrini and his side.
