Two out of the four Premier League teams featured in Matchday 1. While Liverpool travelled to Italy in order to face Napoli, Chelsea locked horns Valencia. Both the Premier League clubs snubbed away vital points in a game which they began as favourites.
Liverpool faced the mighty Naples going into the game with confidence of five Premier League wins riding over their shoulders.
The Merseyside club did not look the usual self and were taken down by the wall-like defence of Napoli which was proportionately helped by creative defence.
The hosts scored two goals in dying minutes of the game and dwarfed the mighty Champions with ease. Not a pleasant sight!
Carlo Ancelloti’s side had a big influence in the 12th man i.e the crowd of Stadio Sao Paolo that helped home team spread the joy.
At the same time when Liverpool were downed by Napoli, Frank Lampard’s squad could not gift their manager a win in his debut Champions League game. Chelsea were left downtrodden by the unbreakable Spanish club that won the game courtesy a goal from Rodrigo in 80th minute of the game.
Chelsea eventually lost the game 1-0 and continued their patchy run of form. With two teams left to play tonight, we can hope that Manchester City and Spurs hand us a win. Both the teams face a fairly decent opponent.
While City would want to regain their lost confidence, Spurs would want to continue their momentum of scoring.
