Liverpool are aiming to continue their winning start to the Premier League campaign when they play host to Newcastle United at Anfield.
The Reds have hardly looked back since defeating Norwich City 4-1 on matchday one, going on to beat Southampton, Arsenal and Burnley before the international break.
Steve Bruce hasn’t enjoyed his comeback to the Premier League just yet. His side are 14th on the table after gaining just four points from their opening four Premier League games.
A shock win at Tottenham Hotspur, followed by a one-all draw against Watford ensured the Magpies are undefeated in their last two games in the top-flight.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 23 Premier League home games against Newcastle United (W19 D4).
Only against Manchester United between 1973 and 2012 (29 games) have Newcastle had a longer winless run away from home in the top-flight than their current run of 23 games without a win against Liverpool.
Liverpool are looking to become just the third team to win 14 consecutive English top-flight matches. Jurgen Klopp’s side could also become the first team to win 14 games in a row while scoring more than one goal each time.
In their last 23 encounters against Newcastle, Liverpool have scored in every one of them, keeping 12 clean sheets during that time.
TEAM NEWS
Liverpool continue to be without first choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker. Long term absentee, Naby Keita is also expected to miss the match alongside Nathaniel Clyne who is still working on getting back to fitness.
With a busy international break under his belt and a Champions League game against Napoli looming, Klopp could decide to rest Roberto Firmino.
Newcastle could be without majority of the first team as Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maxim, Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Florian Leljeune are all unavailable for the trip to Merseyside. DeAndre Yedlin is also expected to miss the game.
