Manchester United have officially confirmed that the club has offered a new contract to Spanish international Juan Mata in order to keep the player at the Old Trafford.
Mata will be out of contract this summer and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid as well as Barcelona have both expressed their desire to sign the player.
In a post on their official website, “United confirmed that Mata has been offered the opportunity to snub the interest in him sign fresh terms at Old Trafford”
The club also confirmed that Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera have now left the club.”
Mata reportedly is also keen to return to La Liga with winners Barcelona tipped as the favorites to sign the player.
Juan Mata wanted a 2 year deal at the club but United are willing to offer him nothing more than 1 year with an option for further twelve months. Mata scored 6 goals and notched 4 assists in 32 appearances for the Red devils last season and United fans have urged the board to keep hold of the Spanish international.
With Mata adamant on a two-year contract it remains unlikely that he will sign the new contract at United and fans will have to bid farewell to one of their best players they had for sometime now.
